Later in the month, I will be back in county Wicklow. Bray with its long seaside promenade is a fantastically inspiring place, which Joyce fondly remembered having lived there for a while as a young boy. (Just in case you are on a Joycean pilgrimage.) I remember a reading I gave once in the Harbour Bar with the Centre for Creative Practices on a Valentine's Day. A pub Joyce often frequented, now a shrine for musicians and poets and the venue where readings are held by the Bray Literary Festival.
I will be delivering a workshop on memoir writing at the Bray Literary Festival, sponsored by the Open University.
Everybody has a story to tell – but many people think that theirs is not worth the telling. In this workshop you will find out how to connect with your readership. We will explore the universal themes that can glue a memoir together. We will look at where to begin and what forms your memoir could take. Writing exercises will set you off on a journey of memory and self-discovery. The workshop is suitable for beginners and more experienced writers.
Date: Saturday 28th September 10 am- 12 am
Cost is €10
Venue: St. Cronan’s National School, Vevay Crescent (off Main Street), Bray.
